Welcome to our latest installment of Next to My Bed, a feature on Hill House Home's 40 Winks Blog that takes an up close and personal look at what some of our friends keep next to their bed.
Nicole Gibbons
CEO & Founder of Clare
There are about a thousand reasons you may have heard Nicole Gibbons' name. She's a staple in the interior decorating world, a design blogger, and charismatic television personality. Oh, and in case she wasn't busy enough? She's also the CEO and Founder of Clare, which eliminates the need for you to stand in front of 32,542 strips of colored rectangles a hardware store. In simpler terms: Clare Paint makes shopping for paint easier, more fun, and by default, chicer. Here, she shares what's next to her bed.
What side of the bed do you sleep on?
The right side. But to be honest, I also fall asleep on my sofa A LOT and don’t always make it into bed!
What can you not sleep without?
A headscarf. I need my hair tied up and off my face and neck while I sleep.
What is currently next to your bed?
A pair of nightstands.
The wall my bed is situated on is quite narrow, so my nightstands are small, and I keep the tabletop pretty edited. Just a table lamp, always a scented candle, and a small dish to place jewelry in. I usually set my watch in there when I come home and when going to bed, I place my earrings in there. From time to time I’ll also add a small vase of fresh flowers as a little luxury.
What is the strangest thing that's next to your bed?
I sometimes sleep with a 15lb weighted blanket. It’s a simple one with a cotton cover that I got from Amazon and it’s so helpful when I’m feeling anxious or can’t sleep. I feel strangely comforted by it. It’s tucked away for the summer because it’s a bit too hot, but during the cooler months, I keep it on the floor next to my bed in a small woven rope basket.
What would you not be able to sleep without being next to your bed?
There isn’t anything I can’t sleep without! When I’m not feeling stressed, I’m a pretty hard sleeper and don’t really need anything during the night.
Do you keep any electronics next to your bed?
I charge my phone and keep it on silent on my nightstand.
What is your nighttime routine in 5 steps or less.
- Shower.
- Skincare. I’ve recently simplified my routine to 3 products. I oil cleanse first then follow with a DIY liquid cleanser I made from African black soap. Then I follow with a topical retinoid from my dermatologist called Tazorac which helps to clear and prevent acne.
- Tie hair up in a silk scarf.
- I’m out!
